2026-2027 Course Planning

Beginning in December 2025, students will work with Counselor Martinez and their teachers to select their preferences for Elective Courses for School Year 2026-2027. Below is the timeline, useful information, and directions on how this process occurs.

Timeline

• December 5th - Coffee with the Principal and Community Newsletter explains the course selection process to families.
• December 8th - 6th and 7th Students are sent home with a paper copy of the choice sheet to review with the grown-ups and to select their four (4) electives and two (2) alternate choices in case a first choice is not available. Students should bring this completed form back to campus no later than Wednesday, December 10th.
• By December 19th - All students will briefly meet with Counselor Martinez or designee during one of their classes to enter their elective choices into SchooLinks course planning system.
• In January 2026, we will review student choices to determine which elective courses and how many sections of each we will need to offer to meet student needs.
• In February 2026, these decisions affect staffing and budget finalization. Any changes to available electives will be communicated as needed. Specialty/audition-based classes (e.g., upper-level arts courses) complete their selection processes and provide their rosters to the Master Schedule team.
• In March 2026, we will have our first draft of our Master Schedule created, pending the acceptance of our incoming new students for their seats. After we finalize our new students, we integrate their requests into the Master Schedule.
• In April 2026, we should be able to send a paper/digital copy of your students' requested courses, but not their exact schedule.
• In May and June 2026, we balance students and courses to create our Master Schedule.
• In July 2026, student schedules will be available digitally in PowerSchool. We will still be making any necessary adjustments based on any changes in enrollment or staffing that occur over the summer.
• In August 2026, student schedules are finalized. Besides placement errors (course level or missing required courses) or operational needs, no schedule changes are made.
